Homeopathic Treatment of Urticaria: Causes, Symptoms, and Remedies
DEFINATION:-
Main symptom of urticaria or hives is skin rashes like wheal with itching, triggered by reaction of some food, medicine, stress, anger, excessive sweating, exercise and exposure to hot or cold temperature.
Urticarial area is a focal dermal oedema due to increase capillary permeability in certain body sites such as lips, hands, face and all over body. oedema spread in deeper parts of body known as angioedema. urticarial swelling is persist less than 24 hours. Acute urticaria is associated with angio-oedema of lips, face, throat and rarely wheezing, headache and abdominal pain and severe angioedema is life threatening due to respiratory obstruction.
If eruption less than 24 hours is known as urticaria and if more than 24 hours is known as urticarial vasculitis. Acute urticaria named when history less than 6 weeks and chronic urticaria when history more than 6th weeks.
CAUSE OF URTICARIA:-
Urticaria occurs when histamine released under the skin surface. This causes the tissue swell.
- From eating certain foods.
- From insect bite or stings.
- From excessive heat or cold exposure and pressure of clothes, from scratching and itching, sun exposure and water.
- From emotional stress and anger.
- Some environmental factors like pollen, dust mites and chemicals.
- From contact of animal saliva and latex.
- Drugs like NSAIDS or antibiotics.
- Autoimmune due to production of antibodies that cross-link the IgE receptor or mast cell.
- Infections In viral hepatitis, infectious mononucleosis, HIV.
- Other conditions like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Pregnancy and intestinal parasites.
SYMPTOMS OF URTICARIA:-
- Main symptom of urticaria is skin rash or wheal.
- Rashes raised, red, itchy bumpy that may be burn or sting.
- Blanching means when pressed the center of red hives turns white.
- Urticaria can appear on any part of body, they may change shape, move, appear and disappear over short period of time.
- Itching is very intense.
- Painful swelling (angioedema ) around the eyes, lips and cheeks.
HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINE FOR URTICARIA
1. APIS MELLIFICA:-
This medicine is acts on cellular tissue causing edema of skin and mucous membrane. In urticaria indicated when swelling is also present in skin with pain is stinging type and rosy hue skin. Sudden puffiness of whole body In urticaria and mostly urticarial eruption in night and also aggravated from change of weather or air. urticarial eruption are ameliorated by cold water.
Mostly affected parts with urticaria are face, hands and back and also sore throat with urticaria. Urticaria alternate with asthma or difficulty in respiration or some times present with diarrhea. Also apis mellifica is indicated when urticaria is aggravated by violent exercise and after eating shell fish. also when urticaria present with fever. also indicated when urticaria with vomiting and present on uncovered part of body. And also when urticarial eruption after perspiration.
2. APIUM GRAVEOLENS:-
Appearance of head pain (pressing) ameliorated by urticaria. Urticaria present with shuddering. Also pressing pain in stomach before urticaria.
3. ARSENICUM ALBUM:-
It used when urticaria is aggravated by cold air or from becoming cold. Also used when inflammation of larynx with suppressed urticaria. Urticaria alternate with crams and croup. Also used when urticaria from gastric derangement.
4. ASTACUS FLUVIATILIS:-
This medicine only used in chronic urticarial eruptions. Urticarial eruptions on whole body. Abdominal pain in right hypochondria with urticaria and also liver affections with urticaria. Also used when erysipelas with urticaria.
5. BOVISTA LYCOPERDON:-
Urticaria on waking in morning and in night. Urticaria aggravated from exercise, from emotions or excitement, during menses, from bathing and urticaria with palpitations or with rheumatism or with diarrhea.
Mentally Bovista person is aversion with everything in urticaria and also awkwardness in urticaria. Also quarrelsomeness in urticaria. Sensitive or oversensitive in urticaria.
6. CALADIUM SEGUINUM:-
This medicine is indicated when asthma alternate with urticarial eruption and oppression or tightness of chest alternate with urticaria. Respiration is also difficult, alternate with itching rashes. Urticarial eruptions mostly on chest region. also used when urticaria with fever and urticaria after scratching or itching.
7. CALCAREA CARBONICA:-
Urticarial eruptions better in cold air or in open air. urticaria aggravated from cold bathing or from becoming cold or after violent exercise and after scratching. this medicine is also used in chronic urticaria and urticaria in children.
NOTE:- In calcarea phosphorica urticaria after cold bathing.
8. COPAIVA OFFICINALIS:-
Most Commonly used in chronic urticaria of children. Urticarial eruption is nodular and rosy in color. Urticarial eruption present during fever and with constipation. urticarial eruption most commonly present in night and with itching or stinging pain. also gastric derangement of stomach after urticaria and delirium in urticaria. urticaria in male genitalia.
9. CHLORALUM HYDRATUM:-
Most commonly used in chronic urticarial eruption mostly in afternoon and night. also eruption from sudden exposure of chill and during chill. Eruptions are nodular and rosy type. Urticarial eruptions aggravated after alcoholic drinks or wine. Also aggravated from hot drink.
10. DULCAMARA:-
Urticaria from exposure or sour stomach. Chronic urticaria in children. Urticaria with catarrh or from becoming cold and also ameliorated by cold water. Urticarial eruption ameliorated from cold air. urticaria from gastric derangement. Urticaria before and during menses. urticaria with rheumatic lameness, palpitation and diarrhea. Urticaria aggravated from warmth or exercise. Urticaria with itching, burning after scratching with no fever. urticaria after scratching. urticaria is nodular type also sometimes on face region. sore throat with urticaria.
11. HEPAR SULPHUR:-
Hepar sulph. used when urticaria in children and in chronic recurring nodular type urticaria. Urticarial eruption after fever and urticaria before or after chill. also urticaria after violent exertion or exercise and after scratching. Urticarial eruption is very sensitive to touch.
12. LEDUM PALUSTRE:-
Ledum is indicated when urticaria is nodular type and urticaria after scratching. urticarial eruption aggravated by warmth and exercise.
13. NATRIUM MURIATICUM:-
This medicine is used in chronic white nodular urticaria. Urticaria during chill or with intermittent chill. urticarial eruption aggravated after violent exercise or exertion or and before and during menses. urticaria also after scratching and from emotion. urticaria on ankle and hand, elbow, forearm.
14. RHUS TOXICODENDRON:-
This medicine is most commonly used in chronic urticaria and urticarial eruptions are rosy or nodular type. urticarial eruption aggravated from cold or from becoming cold or cold air or from becoming wet, during fever and during chill. also most commonly indicated when urticaria during perspiration, during rheumatism and after scratching. skin is red, swollen with intense itching in urticaria. Also used in urticaria in cement workers.
15. SULPHUR:-
Sulphur is used in chronic urticaria. Urticarial eruption aggravated by bathing, during fever, after scratching and from warmth exercise. Urticaria is nodular type and with erosion on toes. It used in urticaria present on face, upper limb, hand, back of hand and in lower limbs at thigh, legs and foot.
16. URTICA URENS:-
First grade remedy is all type of urticarial eruptions like nodular and angioneurotic edema. urticaria with burning heat and formication with itching. Rheumatism alternate with urticaria. urticaria with oxyurea. urticaria every year in same season.
urticaria during rheumatism. urticaria with shuddering. Urticaria from violent exercise and after eating shell-fish. also urticaria with ascarides. Urticaria ameliorated by lying.
17. SANGUINARIA CANADENSIS:-
This medicine is indicated when nausea with itching before urticaria.
18. AGARICUS MUSCARIUS:-
Best medicine in urticaria present on head.
19. ELATERIUM:-
This medicine is used when urticaria is better by rubbing.
20. RHUS VENENATA:-
This medicine is used when urticarial eruption is present in palm of hand. also itching is relieved by hot water. vesicles, erysipelas and skin dark red.
